Faith United Methodist Church was born March 28, 2004, when Riverside United Methodist Church and Oakkhurst United Methodist Church merged congregations.  Although not yet ten years old, Faith United Methodist Church has already made a positive impact in the community by serving as a distribution center for Meals on Wheels, supporting Cub Scout and Girl Scout troups, and participating in drug prevention programs in area schools.  In addition, the congregation continues to walk in faith and grow in the love and knowledge of God through worship, Sunday School for children, youth, and adults, and participation in various denominational oranizations.

Whether you are looking for God, for friendship and fellowship, or for help in a hurting world, the people of Faith United Methodist Church would be honored to walk with you on the journey.  You are invited to find what you seek at Faith United Methodist Church.

Riverside United Methodist Church

Riverside Methodist Episcopal Church, South, began in March 1888 when the Reverend C. F. Vance and ten people held Sunday school in an abandoned saloon at East First and Sylvania Streets.

In its early years, the congregation was served by visiting ministers and by students at Polytechnic College (now Texas Wesleyan University). The name of the church was changed in 1924 to Sylvania Heights Methodist Episcopal Church, South, but in 1935 it reverted to its original name.  After a denomination name change in 1968, it became known as Riverside United Methodist Church.  Highway construction and changing neighborhood dynamics led to the church's relocation to the current building location site in 1982.

Oakhurst United Methodist Church

In 1944, a group of people organized the Oakhurst Methodist Church under the leadership of Rev. George Kornegay. The first several months the services were held in the Oakhurst Elementary School. Before the end of the year, many fine goals were realized. A full time pastor was in residence at the newly acquired parsonage. The choir and Woman's Society of Christian Service was organized and meeting regularly in various homes. Fellowship suppers were held in a rented club house with all necessary utensils and food being brought each time. A building site was secured and the first unit was built and occupied during that year.
